Philly-bred, NY-based Famous Letter Writer is the indie pop music project of award-winning writer and lyricist M.I. Devine and multi-instrumentalist Ru Devine. Their music is a "cultured brand of indie meta-pop" (Burlington's Seven Days) with a "compelling and extraordinary sound that's thoroughly their own" (Brooklyn's Two Coats of Paint). Frontman M.I. Devine's deadpan lyrical wit and rough-hewn delivery has been compared to Jarvis Cocker and Julian Casablancas, while Ru’s minimalist, moving musical architecture, what she calls her “mom pop,” creates gorgeously layered, catchy anthems. Old school and forward looking: here's gritty, witty and combustible pop, all sticky zags and flashes a la The Velvet Underground, Talking Heads, maybe even Suicide, maybe even Bruce Springsteen covering Suicide. Their first album, WARHOLA, produced by The Shivers, drops 11/11 on Big Deep Records and M.I.'s book of essays, winner of the Gournay Prize for Creative Nonfiction, "Warhol's Mother's Pantry", gets published by Ohio State/Mad Creek Books on 11/9.
